Breath Training
Breath Training is the development and refinement of optimal breathing-patterns to suit any and all situations, and is at the core of everything I teach. Join me for a one-on-one session as we radically transform the way you breathe,
the way you think about breathing, as well as your posture— which is foundational for optimal breathing.

These breath training lessons draw from material covered in the BREATH-SPINE-CORE program, and are individually tailored to your needs. By using specific palpation and cueing techniques, I will guide you in developing your "shape of optimal breathing".
If you choose to purchase a package of three sessions, I will also teach you some more advanced breathing techniques, along with a gentle seated qigong sequence designed for opening and stretching the spine, chest, shoulders, and neck.

“For years I suffered from low-back pain and just lived with it. But when my granddaughter was born, I knew I needed to do something about it if I wanted to keep up with her and be active in her life. Clay’s work has been life changing, and he’s taught me so much about my body. I can’t recommend him enough!”

Orthopedic Bodywork
“Find it, fix it, leave it alone,” is a foundational principle in osteopathic manual therapy, and is at the heart of how I treat clients. And as my osteopathic teacher would say, “Treat the person, not the technique,” referring to the differences between a ‘technician’ and a ‘clinician’; for a technician uses the technique they know, while a clinician uses any technique that gets the job done.

After 15 years of clinical practice and thousands of hours of study, I’ve learned and refined a number of gentle and effective techniques for treating a wide-range of musculoskeletal injuries and chronic-pain issues.

All sessions begin with a thorough assessment, for as the saying goes, “If you’re not assessing, you’re guessing.” Treatments consist of a blend of manual therapy and corrective exercises, depending on your needs and goals. And as always, breathing is at the core of my approach.
Education is also an integral part of each session, so that I may best help you to understand your condition and how to care for yourself.

And as I always promise my clients, if I’m unable to resolve your issues, or if they're beyond my scope of practice, I will do everything I can to help you find the people and resources that will further you on your healing journey.

“In the fall of 2017, I fractured my collarbone surfing, and after a few months of resting it, I wasn’t able to raise my arm past my shoulder. When I got back down to Puerto Rico I started training with Clay once a week, and within a few months he helped me get back to full range of motion. I was even able to surf again before the end of the winter season.”

Surf-Paddle Training
Surfing requires many skills, as well as healthy shoulders. I’ve lived and surfed in some of the most iconic places in the world and am continually surprised at how many surfers have poor paddling technique— even very experienced ones. Equally surprising is how little, to no, warm-up most surfers do before entering the water; and often the ones who do are likely causing more harm than good by aggressively swinging or stretching their arms through unfavorable angles.

Join me as I share with you from my 30 years of prone-paddling experience. In 1993, I was initiated into the American Red Cross Volunteer Lifesaving Corps, in Jacksonville Beach, Fl, where I began my paddle training and competed in numerous prone paddleboard races. Long-distance paddling forces you to find and correct flaws in your technique, something most surfers never experience just paddling out to, and around, the line-up.

Each lesson begins on the beach with learning healthy shoulder mechanics, dynamic warm-up movements, and proper paddling technique.

We will then spend the rest of the hour in the water paddling as I observe and make corrections to your technique, as well as trading off between your board and my 14’ Bark prone paddleboard, which will allow you an opportunity to experience your paddling like never before.

I will teach you key techniques for developing power, speed, and efficiency in your paddling, and hopefully inspire you to practice not only for improving your surfing, but also as a joyful and meditative practice in and of itself.

I am CPR and First Aid certified by the American Heart Association.
